In March 2009, several women came together at CCC for the purpose of being the presence of Christ to a group of people they will never meet and who will never have the opportunity to personally say "Thank you." It was at this meeting the Love Knots was born.
This ministry began initially to sick children being cared at the University of Virginia Medical Center and their families. The goal was a simple one: to let them know that God loves them in their struggle, that we love them, and that we are praying for them.
This was done through making blankets and quilts for kids and knitting hats and booties for preemies. A note was attached (see below) and the items were distributed through the Ronald McDonald House, a non-profit which provides inexpensive housing for out-of-town families who have a child being treated at UVA.
Since then, we have made blankets for a children's orphanage in Liberia, patients at the UVA Dialysis Center at Zion Crossroads, homeless families staying at the Salvation Army shelter in Charlottesville and others, senior citizens served by the Fluvanna Christian Service Society and numerous others.
You can read a news article about Love Knots published by the Rural Virginian here.
Love Knots meets on the first Saturday of each month at the CCC Mission Center at 4pm. No special skills are necessary to make the fleece blankets. However, we are planning classes in quilting, crocheting, and knitting in the near future. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to join us.
