New Beginnings

The New Beginnings ministry was started in December 2007 in order to help a congregation in Charlottesville provide small Christmas gifts to the folks to whom they ministered — the homeless, recovering addicts and alcoholics, ex-offenders and their families.  We collected nonperishable food, good used clothing, and other items for children and adults.

From this simple "beginning" came the suggestion that we each bring a can of food everytime we met. Some do so through small groups; others prefer to bring food items to Sunday Celebration Services.

We have continued this small act of service in our small group meetings and celebration services. The food part of this ministry has been expanded to help other congregations who run food pantries on a continuing basis and the emergency food bank provided by MACAA .

Your contributions are always welcome.  Some folks bring food.  Some bring good, usable, items they or family members no longer need.  Through this ministry we are able to meet real, tangible needs of persons around us created in the image of God who need help for a new beginning.

You can plug in by contributing in whatever way you feel led.  Help distributing and delivering these items is always welcome.

If you have questions, contact Virginia Petty.

The Lord said, "See, I make all things new" (Rev. 21:5; NRSV).   It is a good beginning.
